Satellite TV Systems
Satellite TV offers hundreds of channels of digital
quality picture and sound to anyone with an unobstructed view of the
Southwest sky. The receiver is about the size of a small VCR and is located
near your TV. A cable connects the outdoor satellite antenna to the receiver
inside. Additional cables connect the receiver to your TV input, your VCR,
surround sound system, etc. The final connection is a telephone cable from
the satellite receiver to a phone outlet. Although the phone connection is
not necessary, it is required receive Pay-per-view programs. You will never
notice any interference with your telephone usage. The satellite TV system
only uses the phone line to send electronic data about your pay-per-view
billing info to a toll-free number. High Definition TV programming is
available with special hardware (dish and receiver), for the ultimate in
picture and sound resolution.
A monthly fee is required for the programming, the
price is roughly comparable to cable TV programming costs. The advantages of
satellite TV are better quality picture and sound, availability anywhere in
the US with "a view", and more programming choices. The main disadvantage is
that one receiver is required for each program (channel) that is viewed,
watching different channels simultaneously in different rooms, requires
multiple receivers . This can be
problematic for locations with several TV viewers, wanting to watch different
programs.
